On 5th November, our year 10 GCSE Dance students and Year 12 BTEC Performing Arts students were lucky enough to take part in Classical Indian Dance workshops given by Shyam, Artist from Srishti - Nina Rajarani Dance Creations, that linked to the use of gesture and movement in storytelling. We all had a lot of fun, albeit exhausting. The 2 styles of Dance Bharatanatyam and Kathak were very different in technique but both shared the importance of ngika (gestures and body language), and Vachika (song, recitation, music and rhythm), universal in Classical Indian Dance. It was a real privilege to learn from such an expert. Thanks to Pavilion Dance South West for organising for us as one of their Dream Associate Schools.
