Young Carers

  • Special educational needs
  • Mental health condition
  • Substance misuse
  • Age

Some ways young carers provide care include:

  • Practical Tasks
  • Emotional support
  • Personal care
  • Managing budgets
  • Giving medicine
  • Helping with communication
  • Supporting siblings

What we do at Poole High School

We are committed to supporting young carers without judgement. We recognise and support our young carers by:

  • Identifying young carers within our school community, this is achieved with a whole-school approach including staff development, working with families, targeted school support and Young Carer Voice.
  • Having designated members of staff to support young carers.
  • Running weekly drop-in sessions for our young carers.
  • Offering termly group meetings to get young carers together and do something fun.
  • Having a dedicated Young Carers Teams, where the Champions can share information with young carers.

MYTIME Young Carers

We work closely with the MYTIME Young carers charity. MYTIME is a local charity whose aim is to level the playing field for Young Carers by providing them with the support, opportunities and friendship that every child needs and deserves.
