Geography

Our Geography department equips our students with the skills to make sense of our changing world.

Curriculum Intent

At Poole High School, our Geography curriculum inspires students to develop a curiosity about the world and a deeper understanding of the physical and human processes that shape it. Geography helps students make sense of an ever-changing world by exploring how people, places and environments are connected, and why these connections matter both now and in the future.

Through the study of contemporary and historical geographical issues, students investigate the challenges facing our planet, including climate change, resource management, urbanisation, natural hazards and global development. They develop an understanding of the complex relationships between people and the environment, enabling them to become informed and responsible global citizens.

Our curriculum equips students with a broad range of transferable skills, including communication, literacy, numeracy, data analysis, spatial awareness, problem-solving and the effective use of technology. Students learn to interpret maps, analyse geographical data, evaluate evidence and make well-reasoned judgements about real-world issues.

Key Stage 3

Our diverse modules at Key Stage 3 inspire in pupils a curiosity and enthrallment in our world and the people who are changing it every day. As pupils progress, their understanding of the interactions between the Earth’s physical and human processes deepen. Modules studied have a relevance to issues that pupils come across in their everyday life such as fashion, the food they eat and their local coastline. Pupils are assessed at the end of each module through a range of different tasks.

Key Stage 4

Geography is everywhere! If you have an interest in the world around you and are fascinated about the processes that shape the environment and people’s lives, then this is the course for you.
