Self-quizzing requires you to recall the information from memory from your knowledge organisers. This has a number of excellent benefits for your progression in learning:
- Firstly it highlights to you what you do or don’t know but also strengthens your ability to recall that information
- This is an essential skill for all of your examinations but needs practice.
- Self-quizzing requires you to only focus on the process of learning the directed key words and definitions;
- Some people have a better working memory than others, although we can all improve our long term memory through repeated practice (Working memory can be defined as the small amount of information that can be accessed whilst completing a cognitive task.);
We can help our working memory by removing distractions too.
This short video explains how we do self quizzing.
